Balazs Mate was born in 1988 and currently lives in Budapest where he studies an MA in Photography at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME). At the same time, he works as a photographer and DTP operator at Flashback Photo Studio, one of Hungary's leading photographic and rental studios.

In 2012, Mate had his personal work exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, London, among the top ten finalists of the Google Photography Prize. Later that year two of his series were exhibited at the Ludwig Museum, Budapest. Since 2012 he has been a member of the Association of Young Photographers Hungary (FFS).
