Ivan was born in Buenos Aires and moved to New York at the age of 21 where he did his studies at the New York Parsons School of Design. He lived in New York for eight years, during which time he started his career as a photographer specialising in fashion photography for clothing brands, catalogue and editorial clients.

In 1996 he moved to Mexico and turned his craft to advertising.
