Welcome to Showcase New England, brought to you by Production Paradise. This issue features some of the leading photographers, directors, and stylists working out of New England.

More creative professionals and facilities for photographic and film production are available in our Boston Photo and Film directories.

Be sure to catch our recommended events:

    • The 31st Boston Jewish Film Festival runs throughout Greater Boston from 6th to 17th November. With nearly 60 screenings and events, the BJFF is a destination to enjoy thought-provoking films and new media, and to join lively conversations with filmmakers.
    • From 6th October to 2nd December, Maine Museum of Photographic Arts in Portland will exhibit Spiritual Ecology, part one. Over the past 10 years large amounts of the works submitted by artists to MMPA deal with spiritual ecology. The MMPA's collection is also shaped by this new movement, and the current exhibition highlights some of the artists they represent that are thinking and making around the topic.
    • Documentary / Anti-Graphic: A Surrealist Eye on Photographs: Through 1st January at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, this exhibition explores a pair of terms devised by the pioneering art dealer and dedicated surrealist Julien Levy (American, 1906-1981), who championed photography as an art form from the 1930s onward.

Our cover was shot by Brent Doscher.

    Austin Huck

Welcome to Showcase New England, brought to you by Production Paradise. This issue features some of the leading photographers, directors, post production artists and rental studios working out of New England.

More creative professionals and facilities for photographic and film production are available in our Boston Photo and Film directories.

Be sure to catch our recommended events:

    • Viewpoints: Photographs from the Howard Greenberg Collection. Exhibition features some of the most enduring and powerful photographs of the 20th century, investigating photography’s transformative power and its role in contributing to collective memories. Until 15th December at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
    • Barbara Morgan: Letter to the World. The exhibition reflects Morgan’s lifelong fascination with movement at every level, from the atomic to the tectonic, and her ceaseless effort to distill that energy into her photographs. At Portland Museum of Art, until 9th February 2020.

Our editorial features unretouched images shot by Austin Huck. After a year of highly produced commercial projects the photographer was longing for something to revitalise his creativity, but was struggling to find a concept that he could connect with. Austin asked two of his favorite models to do a simple window light portrait at the studio for fun. Using just natural light they simply explored posing and expression. ''It was freeing to not have any expectations or creative brief to stick to, and just create. Having no concept actually allowed us to play and collaborate more freely, and we were all really excited about the outcome.''

    • In the Vanguard: Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, 1950-1969 exhibition explores how an experimental school in rural Maine transformed art, craft, and design in the 20th century and helped define the aesthetics of the nation’s counterculture. At Portland Museum of Art, until 8th September.
    • Georgie Friedman: Fragments of Antarctica - A waning beauty in an uncertain future. The exhibition presents fragments of a shrinking continent and raises questions about the need to document an ecology in peril. Exhibition invites visitors to reflect on their own relationship with the natural world—and consider an ice-bound landscape under threat by sweeping global changes. Until 16th September at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Our cover image was shot by Cheryl Clegg. The series focusses on the changes at the iconic Maine Harbor. At one time the lobster fisherman walked out of their doors right to the harbor, allowing them to work on their boats and gear with ease. Today more and more families that have lived and worked out of the harbor for generations are not able to afford the property on the water.
