“I am Digital” - Stills and moving image portraits. European advertising campaign for PwC. Client: LukeCharles.

"I have always loved the precision of the work that design studio LukeCharles produce. And we have discussed collaborating in the past. Therefore, when Luke Gifford and Charles Taylor called me in early January to discuss shooting portraits, both still and moving, for an extensive European campaign for PwC, I was very excited to be finally working with the guys."

You can see the whole campaign on the portraits section on Philip's website.

"I’m often asked to photograph people in their daily working environments. Pointing a camera and lens, sometimes inches away from the subject's nose, can be an uncomfortable and unwelcome event for any subject.

Making people comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera can be rewarding in itself. The real thrill for me is working with my subject to coax a natural, confident ‘performance’ from them.

Often this will be in the few minutes I have with them. Using my experience in photographing people, plus a few old tricks! It is great to see people come alive in the viewfinder.

The images here are from recent commissions from Bisqit, Black Sun, FHF London, Gather, GVA and ThinkerDoer."

"A really exciting sector of the corporate world for me is the life science and Biomed industry. So this month I'd like to show you some of my recent projects from this sector.

I use a multi-disciplined approach, i.e. portraiture, still life, location shoots and film, to give each company a visual language that integrates in with their pioneering research and products.

Working on location, in a containment lab, can be a challenge, especially wearing a funky blue Biosafety suit, but I find it genuinely exciting working directly with the people that are going to beat cancer, Alzheimer's, etc.

The Biosafety contamination issue in these labs has lead me to develop a system of lighting I can take in to the BSL areas. And I have developed an approach to shooting that doesn't limit the kind of images I can make."

Clayton Franklin eyewear meets the London rock scene.

Highly regarded eyewear designer and manufacturer Clayton Franklin from Japan commissioned Philip Gatward to shoot a campaign. "Clayton Franklin had seen the images from my previous collaboration with Glasseswebb, and asked us to get together again to shoot for them," says Philip.

"The luxurious design of the spectacles is also uber-hip and works well on the street. There is an exciting music scene in London, which Mo and Tim from Glasseswebb share a love of. We thought it would be perfect to team Clayton Franklin up with one of our favourite NYC proto-punk channelling London bands, The Voyeurs. The combination of the exquisite detailed frames and the honesty of the look of the guys worked so well we expanded the shoots to include other musicians and friends of the band."

The result? "Music to my eyes," said Mo.

"For over 10 years I have been capturing the confidence and mood of business leaders in both the UK and Europe with my corporate photography. My experience shows in my work which is always efficient, always fresh, and sometimes award-winning."

Recent projects include Oxford BioMedica 'We believe' film (Client - ThinkerDoer) with director and special effects by Philip Gatward: "I'm really excited about the crossover of stills and moving imagery. Due to the technical difficulty in shooting in a totally sterile lab environment, I combined original moving footage with stills, subtly animated to get full use of this amazing location."
