CONTACT Photography Festival is Toronto's annual city-wide festival encompasing exhibitions, public art installations, and programs that feature the work of local and international lens-based artists.
Located in the heart of beautiful Montreal, Fantasia is a cultural and professional destination point, and since its first edition, the festival’s ever-growing popularity has attracted the attention of the international film industry alongside a legion of attendees from across the world. From July 18 to August 4.
Shelley Niro: 500 Year Itch is the first major retrospective of work by the multimedia artist Shelley Niro (Six Nations Reserve, Bay of Quinte Mohawk, Turtle Clan). For more than 50 years, Niro has been creating art reflecting contemporary life and building upon Kanyen’kehá:ka (Mohawk) philosophies, deep understandings of history and a woman-centred worldview.

- The Stephen Bulger Gallery in Toronto presents The 1960s: A Selection of Vintage Prints from The Keystone Press Agency Canada. The Keystone Agency played a vital role by distributing images to Canadian newspapers, magazines, and other publications throughout the world. Their archive is vast, comprising over 500,000 original photographs and transparencies. From 6th July to 19th August.
- Fashion Fictions surveys experimental design practices that exist at the intersection of fashion and other modes of cultural production. International in scope, the exhibition explores the increasing influence of research-based, materially driven practices on the global fashion scene. At Vancouver Artgallery until 9th October.
- Toronto International Film Festival will take place from 7th to 17th September, and curated ticket packages are on pre-sale.

- Fantasia International Film Festival will celebrate its 25th edition at the vanguard of international genre cinema. The festival has been responsible for breaking countless new talents and introducing international greats to new audiences. The festival will take place at various venues of the city of Montreal, from 14th July to to 3rd August.
- The international group of artists in Ghosts of the Machine reminds us that cyberspace is an extension of our societies, economy, and ecosphere. Through the glowing interfaces associated with digital media, these artists constantly point back to the world offline. Until 14th August at he Polygon Gallery in Vancouver.
- The Stephen Bulger gallery presents “Canada & To Be a Dancer”, the gallery’s first solo exhibition of work by Peter Varley. This exhibition celebrates aspects of Varley’s contributions made over four decades through a selection of vintage B&W photographs, as well as newly printed colour photographs from vintage colour slides. Until 27th August at the gallery's location in Toronto.

- We Buy Gold. A collective exhibition bringing together primarily emerging LGBTQ+ artists living and working in Canada. The exhibition foregrounds the perspectives of younger queer generations. Largely using various forms of portraiture, but also still life and sculptural elements, these artists are concerned less with representing queerness and more with performing, challenging, and interrogating it. Until 6th November at Gallery TPW, Toronto.
- Breaking the Frame showcases many accomplished artists of the 19th and 20th centuries – from Malick Sidibé and Florence Henri to Lang Jingshan, Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Henry Fox Talbot, Robert Frank, and Dorothea Lange – who have helped shape photography, offering a global perspective on the medium that pushes our understanding beyond the conventional. Until 22nd January 2022 at Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto.

- Christina Leslie. Absence/Presence: Morant Bay. Exhibition focused on photographer's personal meditation on loss, absence, and resilience. - Featuring recent video works, a group exhibition Performing Lives boldly bridges the supposed gap between documentary and entertainment, information and spectacle, fact and fiction. The exhibition can be viewed online.
- Evelyn Bencicova’s Cure is an amalgamation of two recent bodies of work: Alice, and Artificial Tears. Both stem from personal experience, the artist having grown up in post-Soviet Slovakia. The exhibition can be viewed online.
