For nearly two decades, Peter Bak has worked as a portrait, lifestyle and travel freelance photographer. Based in Rotterdam, Peter educated himself in photography while in his late 20s and decided to move to New York City where he had the opportunity to master film photography before moving on to digital.

He has a natural talent for both outdoor and location photography and is known for his dramatically lit environment portraits and intriguing travel images. He specialises in creating engaging portraits and documantery. Furthermore, he enjoys making photo reports for travel and lifestyle magazines, which is a perfect method to search for new perspectives (and avoid ordinary views) and explore exotic cultures.

When not shooting professionally, Peter spends his time traveling and working on his personal portrait series. For Peter it is all about people. He prefers to work in a documentary style, enabling him to get closer to a person. Photography to Peter is a way to access these moments, to travel, to meet. "Without these moments they are just pictures," he says.

He now works with a wide range of clients, from travel magazines to corporate portraits.

Clients include: Nautique, Rails, Playboy, Elle, Carp, HP de tijd, NRC and M-magazine.
