STILL LIFE PHOTOGRAPHY Oct 2017

Amsterdam: Tobias Reymond Foto | Film

"Content washed ashore; from animal souls recognised on the endless eastern coasts of Australia to the homeless stills of fruits and vegetables in inner France.

In our daily practice as food photographers, we tend to recognize patterns in the arrangements on the plates we shoot: grimacing peas, a triangle, a worm, you name it. Once a client is aware of such mischief, you’re done. All of a sudden, other creatures may arise in that composition of sweetcorn, carrots and edamé.

Natura Mortis, or still life, often relies on the natural beauty of the product and its subsequent lighting to bring out its texture. Our home economists would choose with great care the best produce they can get, often in various sizes and varieties to play within the strict borders in packaging designs. 'Homeless', a rather dark series shot mainly at dusk, tries to tell a different story."
