Title: 'Thriller' from the 'At the movies' series.

Location: Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, this specific photograph was taken in Culver City.

"We all love going to the movies, and we all have our favourite genre - whether it is a heartwarming Christmas romance, a captivating historical drama, or an adrenaline-filled action movie.

What's fascinating is that most genres can be identified by their distinct features, like lighting or colour mood, from a single still image. Per Schorn’s series, 'At the movies', plays with these typical visual worlds of various film genres.

Each motif embodies a different genre while sharing a common protagonist: a solitary street lantern, giving a sense of quiet isolation throughout the series.

This specific motif would be the 'Thriller' genre, capturing an old car under a blanket. The tension is palpable - you can almost feel that something is about to happen in the very next cut."

"Somebody said that I am a dreamer, I never knew why, but now I see." This quote comes from the new album Horizons / East by Thrice, an album that Per listened to while he was working on his series "From the sketch".

Per teamed up with the wonderful Illustrator Jane Kühn to realise this series he had dreamed of for a long time. This series shows a totally different understanding of "fashion photography".

Another dream came true when Per had the opportunity to portray Titus Dittmann, the founder of Titus Skateboards and Skate Aid.

"It felt great to meet a teenage role model and beside taking photos, speaking about skateboarding and all those fun memories."

As we are speaking about dreams, Per can really say that he is living a dream, realising the ongoing series "Imagination" with his fiancé Nele E. A. Ebner.

Furthermore, the German band NUKX, well known to Per since his teenage days, came up with the idea of conceiving a music video for their new song 'Anders sehen'. As the band wanted to give Per complete creative freedom, he started to write the script, inspired by the sound and lyrics of the song, as well as the still present corona situation. Watching the video you will understand the context.

"And if you’re the last one left. This is my request, could you just shut off the lights?" A quote from the band Knapsack from their song 'Please shut off the lights' - Look it up on Spotify, hit play and enjoy this Spotlight magazine.

Welcome to the selection of Per Schorn, people and portrait photographer based in Frankfurt.

Per visited painter Hendrik Zimmer in his studio a few weeks ago and created with him an atmospheric series showing the artist working for new exhibitions in the US.

Another series features Alex Espigares, who is working as an animator on films like Happy Feet 2 and Iron Man 3, and in 2014 won an Oscar in the category Best animated short film as director for the film 'Mr. Hublot'.

In addition to these works, you can also see an advertising campaign for Omen by HP, which Per Schorn realised with his team at the end of 2020. Per Schorn's passion for a sophisticated lighting mood and his ambition to get the absolute best out of every image can be seen in every pixel of all his images.

The lifestyle series for Revelation Records was created at Huntington Beach in California, where the label is located.

Last but not least a cover shoot for the band The Tex Avery Syndrome.

"These beautiful colours, infinite patterns so hard I see, and though we're all of the same stuff, there's not one of you who is the same as me.“ – Duran Duran

Per Schorn's work this year is characterised by bright colours and the expression of strong individuality, his bold style can also be seen in the colourful campaign he worked on for Omen by HP.

For the free series "Eat what you want" Per was inspired by a motto of last year's CSD.

The portraits, created during Corona from March 2020, show isolated protagonists and thus reflect the time of social distancing.

During the lockdown, he portrayed people who were and still are directly and existentially affected.

"I’ve blocked this scene, in every night's dream, the camera cuts to close up."

"Cuz we won’t all be here this time next year. So while you can, take a picture of us." Like Frank Turner sang in the song 'Polaroid Picture', the best time to take a photo is now, because otherwise you might lose the perfect moment!

Featured in this Spotlight is a selection of photographer Per Schorn's recent work from campaigns for Shell, KitKat and Casino Bad Homburg as well as a selection from his series 'Animals among us' and 'Nightshift'.

And beware of the music video for 'The Tex Avery Syndrome' - it could cause a serious Metal infection!

"Like actors in a photograph," a quote from the song 'Generator' by Bad Religion, best describes how Frankfurt-based Per Schorn realises his idea of photography.

From beautiful actress Sabrina Amali to heavyweight boxing champion Deontay Wilder; from an old maple syrup farmer in the forests of Canada to the great musician Frank Turner, they've all been portrayed in Per's unique cinematic style.

He likes to arrange his pictures like a still from a film, a scene from a yet-to-be-shot film that all takes place in the viewer's mind.

"This is the sickest photograph of me that I have ever found!“

This citation from a song by the band 'Painted Thin', is an inspiration to award-winning people photographer, Per Schorn. Based in Frankfurt a.M., he grew up in the punk rock scene of the late 90s, and likes to start an idea for a story through his photographs that will live on in the mind of the viewer.

His unique story-telling and feel for lighting is complemented by the expert team he assembes for every shoot. Assistants, producers, make-up artists, stylists - whoever is necessary for the perfect picture, everyone works hand-in-hand to create a beautiful image.

When Per is not working for clients he does personal work and teaches at university. He can also be found at concerts, where he regularly photographs bands in his self-built photo booth.
