At the age of 16, Christian Kerber built a dark room in his parent’s cellar so that he could edit his black-and-white reportages. Driven by his curiosity for other people and their lives, Christian chose the camera as his medium in discovering them. His initial contact with artistic photography came through Michael Schmid’s “Werkstatt für Fotografie” in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district, in Kochstrasse. It is here where many US photographers gave talks and discussions. This experience was followed by studies in visual communication, with a focus on photography, at the University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld, Germany.

Christian’s staged photos show the real world which has been taken to extremes; his portraits showcase people in his space and his surroundings. At the same time, Christian attempts to continuously make the staging credible and to concentrate on the people.

He often travels for his magazine clients. Whether in the city or the countryside, he is always on the search for interesting people, the most magnificent corners and the most delicious cuisine.

Christian has lived in Hamburg, Germany, since 1991 and works anywhere he is sent. He shares an office with other photographers, an illustrator and an architect in the city’s Schanzenviertel district.
