Scott Grummett is a photographer and director based in London but shooting worldwide.
Scott’s work centres primarily around food and drink but can cover large scale sets, portraits, documentary, travel, you name it. His work has a vibrant graphic advertising look and focuses on good looking food and wholesome touches of real life.
This particular Showcase focuses on a recent piece of personal work entitled JELLY. For months he has wanted to create a series of stills and a music video style film of jelly dancing to the beat, sometimes with an elegant rippling wobble, at others a thriving mosh pit of head bangers. It’s a self confessed silly boy project, a juvenile and joyful dance around a subject that crosses all generations and can’t help but bring a smile to your face.

His recent work has seen him creating large scale concepts for Alpro. Building sets, lighting rooms and casting and directing actors in the space he has led a creative campaign that sees food and drink at the heart of a larger scene.
Earlier this year, he was in Istanbul shooting a large scale campaign for Flora and their various sister brands, like Rama. The shoot required detailed motion control shots showcasing the plant butter looking just as good as the real thing. It was a huge matrix of different packs, recipes and ingredients for different markets and cultures that had to fit seamlessly whilst still looking delicious.
He's also been working in McDonald's in the UK and Germany, making the food look less plastic and more lip smacking delicious.

"It has to make you hungry" is the mantra that Scott Grummett lives by in his work as a food photographer and director. Everything he shoots always has another challenge from crops to markets but the thing that binds it together is that you always want to eat the food.
Scott's recent work includes the new star studded McCrispy campaign. Tasked with the classic brief of making a McDonald's burger find the perfect balance of real and delicious, this campaign also had to push the envelope and appeal to Gen-Z too. There was also the task of making a day which covered all bases with some exciting social content too, so some kaleidoscope lenses and mirror boxes were built to make the vision complete.
Other recent projects include a project shot in Amsterdam for Cadbury, where tasty chocolate had to pair beautifully. with the real "Fabric Of The Nation" aesthetic.

Title: McDonald's Breakfast Wrappers
"McDonald's commissioned me to shoot their breakfast campaign. Alongside more traditional macro food images we shot a series of empty wrappers showing just how good the McDonald's breakfast is via the fact it's been eaten before we could even take the shot.
We based the shots in areas people traditionally enjoy a McDonald's and worked hard to include details such as the light passing through wrappers, drips, crumbs and pulls of cheese all bathed in an optimistic morning light.
The image was commissioned by Leo Burnett. Food Stylist: Fergal Connolly, Food Styling Assistant: Chris Gates, Props Stylist: Jess Elcock & Ashleigh Latter, Assistant: Nick Warner, Digi: Jon Rose & Digi Boutique, Art Direction: James Millers, Agency Producer: Jo Hodge, Stills Agent / Producer: Terri Manduca."

They drafted Scott in to add a little bit more realness to their food, adding perfectly imperfect crumbs, tears and drips. The vision was to make the McDonalds food offering as tactile and delicious as possible whilst echoing the reality of what we see in the box.
There are also a series of minimal still life food images of the breakfast collection where the food has been eaten and only crumbs remain that are plastered all over London at present.
To demonstrate some other skills this month's Spotlight also features some social Street Food for the post Covid era and a couple of clips from Scott's directing work.

This year his work with Food Hall has taken him to create more and more TV commercials in addition to his stills. Italian steak giants Roadhouse recently commissioned him and the team to create three 30-second commercials and even asked him to workshop the creative with them. The ASMR style films have been a great success and were a fantastic combination of fire, robots (motion control) and steak and chips - naturally a joy to create.
