What a year it has been for Lorentz Gullachsen - he continues to work on the award-winning Marsh & Parsons brand campaign. This year’s portraits were shot in January 2020 and scheduled to run over the year, but something happened and the campaign was put on hold; and then, as soon as lockdown stopped, Gullachsen shot a new series of mask-wearing subjects to be relevant to the new normal that London and the world now faces.

It became obvious that the hospitality sector was struggling, so prompting Gullachsen to conceive and produce a ‘Welcome Back’ video for Shakespeare’s England tourist body featuring David Bradley and a selection of Warwickshire attractions.

Another poster campaign was shot for Seven Stones client, St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, and Lorentz said: “I have always enjoyed working with the healthcare and charity sector, so this was a great opportunity to photograph real subjects for a great cause”.

Finally, Gullachsen was shortlisted for the AOP awards for a portrait of an Extinction Rebellion activist Rev Tim Hewes.

Gullachsen kicked off the year producing the Marsh & Parsons 2020 campaign. In December the 2019 campaign was shortlisted in five categories at the DMA awards, collecting three bronzes. The campaign has collected numerous awards, including the AOP advertising best in category, and most of the relevant industry awards for the client.

2019 was eventful, seeing Gullachsen featured in the AOP Awards with a portrait of Sir Michael Parkinson, more editorial portraits and a broad spectrum of projects, all people focused.

Working in London and Warwickshire, he continues to produce personal projects and editorial commissions that feed into his commercial practice, many are in production or under embargo, but here are a few images from the last few months.

After the success of his 'Best in Category - Advertising single image' in the AoP awards, Lorentz Gullachsen continues to produce new portraits for the Marsh & Parsons brand campaign, which has become part of the London landscape with great media exposure across the capital. A few of the recent portraits are featured in this Spotlight, with some interesting new concepts from the creatives behind the campaign.

Lorentz continues to shoot in a variety of styles, from medium format high production with his production team, to reportage-style natural portraits.

Working in the studio or on location, Lorentz is always aware of time: "I don't want the subject to get bored or agitated, I will keep shooting til I get the shot, but usually the image is captured early in the session, so if the subject has time restrictions I am sure I have something."

Lorentz is based in Stratford on Avon amd shoots across the UK.

Lorentz Gullachsen has enjoyed a very busy year. Advertising clients included Marsh & Parsons for their multi-award winning brand campaign: Portraits as metaphors for types of property. The poster campaign has been seen across the London Underground and two images from the campaign gained success at the AoP awards, including the prestigious Advertising Photography 'Best in Category' single image.

Real people photography has included farmers in Ireland and Norfolk for pharmaceutical client Merial. Reportage style portraits for Asthma UK and formal portraits of many celebrities including Andrew Marr, Sir Roy Strong, Terry Waite, the Rev Richard Coles, and celebrity chefs Tom Kerridge, Yotam Ottolenghi and Nadia Hussian.

“I love to photograph chefs - they are hard workers and I respect the graft that they have to do at whatever level they are at. Cooking is like portrait photography, lots of preparation and then a very quick final dash to produce a work of art.”

Lorentz Gullachsen’s recent work has included film-based portraits as well as working with medium and high-end digital formats.

He enjoyed success with his Marsh & Parsons award-winning campaign and has had an image selected for the Association of Photographers Awards with a personal portrait of Sir Tim Rice.

His recent subjects are as diverse as a Lord, a Knight, farm workers, corporate executives, doctors, celebrity chefs and Alice in Wonderland!

"I love the challenge of a five-minute session, or the luxury of a studio session with a full crew. The essence is capturing a moment when the subject reveals something special; a rare glimpse into the soul of the subject, it's not truth but an insight."

Lorentz is based in Stratford on Avon and London. He is happy to travel the UK and beyond for advertising and editorial commissions.
