For over 25 years he worked as a creative photographer in his own studio in Hamburg, mainly for agencies and magazines in the field of still life (perfume brands), beauty and fashion for an international clientele, and he is now available to work in Barcelona.

His work has been recognised with numerous international awards. Over the years he has created a large stock of food photographs and his new passion – the sensuality of flowers.

Through his photographs, Jo Francis tells stories and orchestrates synaesthetic dream worlds, in which light, scent and fabrics become perceptible and tangible. For many years, the artist has pursued his work as a commercial and editorial photographer for agencies and magazines in Germany, Paris and Milan, specialising on fashion and beauty photography.

Since the beginning of his career until today he continuously worked on his true passion – the sensuality of flowers. He specialised on the composition of light and arrangement, creating a new image language, which resulted in a huge image archive. Jo Francis succeeded to express his emotions via his unique and captivating flower photography, creating abstract work by also using black and white.

Since 1978, Jo Francis has pursued his work in his studio in Hamburg, professionally photographing for international renowned clients in the food industry. As a result of his particularly sensitive view and pursuit of perfection, he is ranked among the best German food photographers.

With lots of passion for food, he designs and captures delicious creations, seen in commercials and on front pages of international magazines and cook books, working also with top chefs such as Bocuse and Lenôtre.

Jo Francis van den Berg is a passionate photographer with many years of international experience in the advertising industry, working for international brands such as Mont Blanc, Steinway, Chanel, Guerlain, La Prairie, Joop and Cartier, to name a few.

After studies at the NARAFI Photo and Film School in Brussels from 1971 to 1973, Jo worked with renowned photographers in London and Amsterdam as well as Reinhart Wolf in Hamburg, before becoming self-employed with his own studio in Hamburg between 1978 and 2018. He now lives in Mallorca.


Two of his most passionate projects include the visualisation of the 'Scent of Light' in 2011 and 'Divine Fragrance', based on Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper'.

Jo has shot magazine covers for the likes of Stern and GEO as well as culinary reports for Essen & Trinken Magazine. He runs a publishing company focusing on photography, art, design, advertising and lifestyle and has received numerous awards. Part of his artistic work has also been recorded by the Museum for Art and Crafts in Hamburg.

Jo owns a large archive of around 1,500 photos which can be purchased on request.

After graduating from the Brussels College for Film and Photography, Jo van den Berg began his career in Amsterdam before establishing his own studio in Hamburg, from where he has shot professionally for internationally-renowned clients for over 20 years.

It all began in 1975 in Brussels when Jo van den Berg met Georgette Berger as a student of Photography , the widow of Rene Magritte, who had died eight years previously. The famous Surrealist had been an inspiration for the passionate photographer from the beginning, and now he had direct access to his work.

Over the following two years, Jo worked in Amsterdam before moving to Hamburg, where as a photographer and artist he continues to run his own studio. His clients include Cartier, Mont Blanc (book: 'Entschleunigug', or 'The discovery of slowness') and Chopard.

Specialising in beauty and fashion photography for an international clientèle, he works as a commercial photographer for agencies and magazines in Hamburg, Paris and Milan.

Jo produced Leonardo da Vinci's 'The last supper' for the latest edition of Parfums (Ebner Editions), in collaboration with Kult Model Agency and A.N.C. Model Management Hamburg. Also known as "the Johnson of fragrances", Parfums is supported by the likes of Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Bulgary, Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier.
